Core Emerging Companies: a for-profit company engaged in biotechnology or
medical device research and development, that has 10 or fewer employees. The company
cannot have been a member of WBBA in the previous 24 months. The Emerging Company pays
$100 membership dues in Year 1, and $250 dues in Year 2, and then graduates to full dues
rates in Year 3.
Core Institutional Members are nonprofit institutions or nonprofit agencies that are involved in
biotechnology or biomedical research, provide services to biotechnology or biomedical
companies or otherwise have an interest in the industries.

Under present law, dues paid to an Association for lobbying expenses directed at state and
federal government are not deductible as an ordinary and necessary business expense. The
WBBA budget has allocated 11% of our budget for direct lobbying activities. Federal Tax
